Communications Adviser

Assist trustees & others in (1) Outreach to the public, Iwi, communities, and stakeholders to engage, inform & raise profile - about services, success stories, sharing, and the role of safety cameras in community safety. (2) With advice and copy for presentations & submissions. (3) Maintain & implement a communications strategy. (4) Maintain effective collaborations & projects with multiple media organisations. Volunteer would be or become financial manager and adviser, oversee relevant policies, comply with official requirements, use MYOB, and align financial planning & budgeting with safety-camera coverage plans for the Horowhenua policing area. Most work can be undertaken at home and could be managed by a person with impaired mobility. Competence in financial advising, planning & budgeting. Using installed MYOB enables ready compliance with Charities Commission requirements for accounts-keeping, banking, payments, and receipts. Annually prepare accurate financial statements, have them reviewed or audited, and present them for AGM adoption; and will maintain sound relations with partners, authorities & colleagues, and prepare other reports as necessary.

We're seeking a volunteer secretary. This role involves records management, archiving, governance support, and liaising, including handling meeting agendas, minutes, correspondence, and documents. Additionally, you'll be responsible for administering the Trust's email system. This opportunity is inclusive, welcoming individuals with mobility challenges. Most non-meeting tasks can be completed from the comfort of your own home. This organisation helps promote community safety.

Health Shuttle Driver

We're looking for compassionate volunteers with a clean driver's license, and physical fitness to assist passengers. In this role, you'll be responsible for safely transporting individuals from their homes to Palmerston North Hospital for medical appointments, contributing to their wellbeing.

Location: PN | Manawatu | Horowhenua

Shifts are flexible and depend on the volume of requests. You can expect to work from Monday to Friday between 6 am and 6 pm, with a target of a maximum 8-hour shift. Occasionally, weekend availability may be required.

Mountain Bike Track Marshalls (Event)

We need track marshalls for the Whanganui/Manawatu Secondary Schools Mountain Bike championship event. Volunteers need to be able to mobilise over potentially steep uneven terrain. Able to concentrate and stay on task. Able to identify hazards and respond to any incident that occurs, including being able to send and receive messages in English in a pressure situation.
Lunch and refreshments are provided to volunteers.

Location: The track is towards the hills between Tokomaru and Linton so just as close for Horowhenua-ites as Manawatū-ites! It is about a 40-minute drive from PN so volunteers do need to have their own transport.

Day Club Volunteers

We need volunteers to assist with serving morning tea and lunches, tidying up, and participating in light physical and brain games (cognitive stimulation therapy) and reminiscing activities. These activities result in Day Club members enjoying social interaction and stimulation.
About you: We are looking for individuals who are cheerful, considerate, and enjoy social interaction.
Please note that a police vetting check is required.

We are looking for a diligent, tech-savvy, business superstar, with an impeccable eye for detail, to assist in developing a business plan for a social service provider. Tasks will include reviewing and advising on policy development, reviewing, drafting, word processing, have a good knowledge of the most up to date legislation, positive communication skills, and be computer literate.

Financial Mentor

Budgeting can be tricky for many people, and quite overwhelming, which is why we are looking for someone who is a master at saving those pennies, and working with finances, and who would love to help others to budget. You will need to be able to work with individuals 1-on-1, as well as groups, to educate people about budgeting. You will also need to be a good listener, non-judgemental and have impeccable problem-solving skills. The volunteer either needs to be FINCAP trained or be willing to do the training with our support.

Dates/Times: A couple of hours a week on Weekdays

Translator (Of written material)

Are you an outgoing, bi-lingual informative individual, who loves to make friends and share news with everyone, while helping people?

We need assistance to translate, edit, and publish local news or information about the Community (Mainly around Palmerston North) or perhaps there is some local news or information from your own native country that you would like to share? We would love to have a variety of languages and backgrounds on board, as long as you are also able to speak and translate English, as well as your native tongue. You will also need to be able to access social media, and new sites from your native country.

Location: Anywhere (work from home)

Dates/Times: Flexible depending on your availability

Community Ambassador

Do you live in a rural community? Do you love talking? Do you enjoy working within your local community? Would you like to help teenagers and adults in your community who struggle with the basics of reading and writing? We will provide you with training and give ongoing support. Over 1 in 10 New Zealanders struggle to read and write. Living with low literacy impacts many aspects of life including health, finances, employment opportunities, well-being and self-esteem. This work changes lives and it makes a real difference.
We are looking for local ambassadors to represent us in your community - to help spread the word about our free services by helping us build and maintain relationships with local organisations and people. It will include distributing posters, and leaflets (or telling us where to send them), attending community network meetings, events and lots of liaising with community groups or businesses so we can help our low literacy youth and adults reach their potential.

Location: Work from home

Dates/Hours: This opportunity is flexible. You will need to report back to the Community Coordinator at least once a month with what you have been doing. You can request help at any time. You will also be part of a community of Regional Ambassadors who will share their experiences and give each other support through our Slack messaging.

Translation Proofreader

Volunteers needed to proofread translated material, including brochures and information guides on endometriosis. Requires fluency or reasonable experience in the language being proofread, good written English skills, technical proficiency with Canva, and understanding of the translation language's culture. Must have strong communication skills, and be reliable and diligent. Computer literate and have internet access. Training provided for Canva.

Retail Shop Assistant

As a Retail Shop Assistant, you will be responsible for sorting donated goods, handling cash, tidying up the store, and visual merchandising. This is a great chance to gain new skills, meet new people, and make a difference in your community.
